Arts organisation Commission an Artist is rolling out a programme that allows pet shops to offer their customers the chance to immortalise pets with an artwork.
The organisation, which finds artists to produce original works for everything from business premises to homes, says the idea of having family pets drawn or painted is growing in popularity. By signing up to the Reseller programme, a pet shop receives a pop-up banner that advertises the service to visitors to their store.
Helen Johnson, who runs Commission an Artist, said: “We are seeing a significant rise in popularity in the idea of having your pet painted or drawn. It’s something a bit different.
“A lot of dog owners like to have a picture of their pets and we receive plenty of requests for cats as well. In fact, we even did a painting of cats at their owners’ wedding.
“Equestrian pictures are popular as well. Parents like to have a picture of a child riding a horse, for example.
“The most unusual request we have had was from the owner of a tarantula which had died. He was heartbroken and wanted something to remember his pet by. Needless to say, we obliged!
“We are excited to be rolling out our Reseller offer, which is a great way for a pet shop to increase their income while offering their customers something special. We are already getting plenty of interest in the idea.”
