Lettings company expands with opening of Durham office

Acorn Properties (Jesmond) Ltd, one of Newcastle’s most respected Letting and property management specialists, has expanded its operation with the opening of its first satellite office In Old Elvet, Durham City, right opposite the Marriott County Hotel.

Managing Director John Henderson said that the company has been letting and managing properties in the Durham area for a number of years and, with demand continuing to grow, it made sense to start their expansion programme in the city.

He said: “Durham city not only comprises of an excellent balance of first class professional, executive and student properties. It also gives us a springboard to cover the rest of the county from our new office.

“We are also further increasing our exposure and penetration in the Sunderland and South Shields areas where we have been successfully letting for some time via our Newcastle office.

“We are introducing a number of very special limited offers to encourage new landlords to try our services in Durham and we feel confident we can give them a first class service and experience”.

2015 will also see the 20th anniversary of Acorn Properties and the company aims to further grow the business next year.  External Business Development Director Louise Greetham said that Acorn has already increased its product portfolio of services with the introduction of Residential Sales which is already beginning to grow in Newcastle. Durham will also incorporate that option.

Louise said: “It is very important to remember that we are letting and property management specialist who sell, rather than a traditional estate agent that lets.  This allows us to advise individual landlords and investors on rental values, yields, return on investment and changes in legislation, especially the daunting new deposit laws that carry very heavy mandatory fines, as well as the main benefits of the property you are selling or the best areas to look for a new property.”

Internal Business Development Director Tricia Scott said that Acorn has worked hard to proactively raise both the standards and reputation of the lettings market  over the past 10 years in the North East and nationally.

She said: “We achieved full accreditation in 2006 and since have introduced various industry leading initiatives such as our “Good Neighbourhood Agreement” designed to eliminate Anti-Social Behaviour, which is sponsored by all three major regional universities as well as Northumbria and Durham constabularies and state of the art customer service levels including online payments and secure electronic signing.  We also have a first class legal helpline to advise both our landlords and tenants, via our staff who combined have over 120 years of industry experience.  We also invest heavily in training.”

The new branch Manager for Durham is Roger Gilbert who was previously the main lettings and sales consultant in the Jesmond office.

John Henderson said: “We are very proud of our staff and it is our intention wherever possible to promote from within.  We have recently introduced a new staff loyalty scheme with additional holiday pay awarded to members when they achieve five years with Acorn. This year, we have seven out of 12 staff currently qualifying and next year that number will rise to nine, so we must be doing something right.”
